Endometriosis is the growth of cells similar to those which form in the uterus. Endometriosis is one of the most frequent causes of pelvic pain and infertility in women. Endometriosis is a painful chronic disease that affects 5 1/2 million women and girls in the United States in women with this problem, fabrics that looks and acts as the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus in other areas. There is no cure for endometriosis, but there are many treatments for pain and infertility that it causes. Hormone therapy may include contraceptive, progestin-only pills, a class of medication called GnRH agonists and danazol (although this is rarely used more). Conservative surgery seeks to remove or destroy the growths, relieve pain and may allow pregnancy to occur in some cases. The pain of endometriosis is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) or naproxen sodium (Aleve). Oral contraceptives (estrogen and progesterone in combination) are sometimes used to treat endometriosis. The most common combination used is in the form of the contraceptive pill (OCP). Danazol (Danocrine) and gestrinone are suppressive steroids with some androgenic activity. Hysterectomy should be considered by women who do not want to become pregnant in the future. Avoid coffee and alcohol. The two can increase levels of estrone. Melatonin and serotonin are increased by meditation, and the stress hormone cortisol is decreased. In many cases, Marijuana (Cannabis Sativa) has proven to relax or remove pain and relieve stress.
